Rebuilding/repairs

Repair or rebuild your home up to the Building Sum Insured after an insured event.

Comes with a safety net of up to an extra 25%.

Temporary accommodationdisclaimer

If your home can't be lived in after an insured event, CGU will pay for reasonable temporary accommodation and related costs (within limits).

Up to 12 months (or up to 10% of your Building Sum Insured, whichever is reached first).

What's not included?

Some things aren’t covered, such as:

  • Damage caused by actions of the sea, such as tides and waves.
  • Damage by your animals, or animals you allow into your home.
  • Water leaking or escaping from a shower recess or shower base (including the cost to repair the item the water leaked from).
  • Electric motors over 15 years old, or motors covered by a manufacturer’s warranty or used for business purposes.

Making an insurance claim can come at an extremely stressful time. With 24/7 claims lodgement over the phone, help is with you when you need it most.

To make a claim, call 13 16 14. Make sure you have your policy number handy.

Included with Plus cover only. Up to an extra 25% on top of your Building Sum Insured (known as Safety Net). If your home needs to be rebuilt or repaired as a result of an incident CGU has agreed to cover and the cost to repair or rebuild your home is higher than the Building Sum Insured.

If you own and live in your home, CGU will pay the reasonable costs of temporary accommodation. As long as you were living in the damaged home permanently before the incident, CGU will pay for accommodation for up to 12 months for Home Buildings Standard (or up to 24 months for Home Buildings Plus), or until your home is repaired or replaced, whichever occurs first. CGU will pay your temporary accommodation costs up to 10% of your Building Sum Insured for Home Buildings Standard policies, and up to 20% for Home Buildings Plus. CGU must be satisfied your home is unliveable and must agree to the cost before you make arrangements.

CGU will pay up to 10% of the Building Sum Insured for this additional benefit.

CGU can cover electric motors for up to 15 years after they were made, provided they are not covered by a warranty, you do not use them for a business, trade or profession and they are kept at your home or site. CGU do not cover the cost to remove or install submerged or underground motors.
